Ornament Display

Sometimes you have to design a display for your work in a shop or gallery.  This is the ornament display I am working on for the Gandee Gallery. I intend for it to be wall mounted. I will be displaying ornaments there for the holiday season as part of their holiday group show.

Here's a link to the gallery:  http://www.gandeegallery.com/

Candle Reflector Brooches

I love finding great objects to reuse.  These started their lives as candle reflectors. I cut and sanded the points, added bits and pieces of fun tin and little pictures on the back too.  Everything is held together with tiny brass rivets.  These would look great on a lapel or a jean jacket.

Copper Bracelet

About a year ago, my brother, who is an antique dealer, gave me these vintage copper pieces.

The pieces were obviously for bracelets.  They sat out on a table near my work bench and I would finger them often and wonder what I would do with them.  I looked for these pieces in catalogs and didn't find anything like them.  I also searched on line and found vintage bracelets made with pieces like this.

Last week, after completing work and cleaning up my work area, I got them out and moved them to center court on the workbench after I had thrown them in the tumbler for a couple of hours.  I moved pieces of tin nearby to test color combos and let that percolate for a couple of days.  Finally,  yesterday, I was ready to put the pieces together. This is what the pieces of copper became, with a little help from some vintage tins, brass circle, brass rivets and steel jump rings and toggle.

Poodle Jewelry Part 2- The Necklace

When we last left the artist she had just completed a poodle bracelet for a client with several sweet poodles.  (See http://www.eaststreetpins.blogspot.com/search/label/poodle%20jewelry). The client's parting words were: "If you ever find more poodle images on tin, let me know."  After a hot morning scouring Madison Bouckville fields for funky tins, what does the artist spy?

You guessed it: POODLE TIN!

So the artist sent the image of the tin to the client and she said, "Go with it...I would like a necklace.  And include some of the other cute images."

First thoughts went something like this:

The client said yes and more images how about from the other sides:

Nine images for the necklace and two for the earrings. The artist went to work and came up with this charming grouping from this fun tin:

The poodle necklace and earrings were delivered this morning and the client immediately put them on!

Madison-Bouckville

If you live in the central New York region you have probably heard of Madison-Bouckville: a huge antique show that seems to last for about 2 weeks.  Every day different fields set up and show their wares.  Yesterday, I spent 4 hours there searching for greats tins and this is what I found:

Charm Bracelet

The green tin I purchased just a little while ago has become the basis for a charm bracelet finished this week.  I gathered up all the jungle themed tins I had to create this little charmer. I included a photo of one of the tins.

Acquiring Tin

I am so fortunate to be given great tins from people I know and those who I have just met. I just got home to a wonderful surprise on my front porch from a woman I met last week at the Lavender fest:

Yesterday, a dear friend gifted me these wonderful tins she had collected for me:

I went to a jumble sale at a local church yesterday and netted these beauties.  I can't wait to start cutting!

Poodles, Poodles Poodles

A client asked me to  make her some tin jewelry with poodles in it because she had some adorable poodles.

Not finding any poodle tin in my collection, I went shopping on the internet and found these poodle tin children's toys. (www.orphanedtreasures.etsy.com)

I purchased them and started working on the jewelry: earrings and a bracelet. My first attempts came out like this:

Although she liked the earrings, I changed them a bit match the poodle colors a bit more.  The bracelet was just a bit too wide to work well as a cuff.  So back to the studio and the 2nd design came out so much better:

I learned more about construction and she really liked the results.
